Shaun Davey – The Parting Glass

“The Parting Glass” by Shaun Davey, as found on the Waking Ned Devine soundtrack. Includes the poem Forever In Your Debt by Kirk Jones, and vocals by Liam O’Maonlai. “Forever In Your Debt” With thanks to those who blew the wind, And those who sailed the ship, We sailed it tight against the tide, And I shall be forever in your debt. All the money that e’er I had I spent it in good company And all the harm I’ve ever done Alas, it was to none but me And all I’ve done for want of wit To memory now, I can’t recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be to you all! Fill to me the parting glass And drink a health whate’er befalls Then gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all! Of all the comrades that e’er I had They’re sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that e’er I had They’d wish me one more day to stay. Since it fell into my lot that I should rise, and you should not I’ll gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all! But since it fell into my lot That I should rise and you should not I’ll gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all! So fill to me the parting glass And drink a health whate’er befalls Then gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all!

Absolutely the best version of this song ever. Liam O’Maonlai’s voice is incredible and the different instruments especially the uileann pipes send chills down your spine! Great job Shaun putting this together.

*sigh* this song brings back so many memories, when I was 4, My family were moving from Ireland to USA, I didn’t want to move. On our very last night in Ireland, My dad and I watched this movie and when this song played, I cried all night! Its been 11 years, and I STILL wish I didn’t move to USA! I luv USA, but it just doesn’t have the same charm that Ireland had. )^:> In 6 years, I’m gonna move back to Ireland. ;^D

@jayraylih And may God bless you! You could not have given him a better send off! He has gone back to a place where music like this comes from.

    How can you better this?

  23. LinnTractorNut says:

@CaeserOct Thanks. Sad to hear that about Ian Brennan, few actors are fortunate to have their last role be a classic for all time.
